1. Hails, Cadaveria !!! How are you?
Fine thanks (to be honest I'm a little tired).
2. Ok, Cadaveria, let us start by asking you about the name Opera IX, what does it mean to you and why was it chosen as the name of your band?
The name Opera IX mirrors the band's evil soul:
'Opera' must be intendend as 'creation', as a ritual to mould and rule the matter, the outcome of a labour, the realization of a thought, of a
will and of a way of being... 'IX' is a meaningful number (like 3 and 6) and for a long time it has been synonymous of magic: it has the power of
3 times 3, the perfect number, it is the more distant nunber from 1 (one, that represents god), it is the last solitary number, over it there
is nothing, the boundary over which there is mystery. We cannor choose another name!
3. Can you give us a brief history of Opera IX. Which are your main influences?
Opera IX was born in the end of eighties as a one man band of Ossian (guitar). Then me (Cadaveria), Vlad (bass) and Flegias
(drums) entered the band. Actually lunaris at the keyboards has completed the line-up. We started by chance, united by a common wish to express ourselves
through a music we like, dealing with our personal interest in occultism and in all what is ancient and unknown.
| 4. Your new release, "Sacro Culto". Tell us abit about it... Are you satisfied with the final result (production and mix)?
Sacro Culto is surely our best album, better if compared with "The Call of the Wood" first of all for the production:
"Sacro Culto" is better recorded and mixed andits sound is more aggressive and persuasive. Then the artwork, 'cause "S. C." is a digipack.
5. How are the divulgation and reception of your new CD?
Really good. Unfortunately Shiver Records is a major so I don't think we will reach more then 7000/8000 copies, but
all fans write from all over the world with congratulations and 99% of reviews have been positive.
6. What elements are going to be different for this release as compared to the older material?
The sound in general! Lirically we have not changed so much. |

7. How are your shows? And your performance on stage?
On stage we try to recreata the typical atmospheres
of our music. We do this with the help of candles, incenses and occult objects... the rest is done by music itself.
8. How has your touring situation been? Could
you tell us about some of the places you've toured and with whom? What are your plans to tour in the future?
We are still touring in Italy. We have played
with many bands... ABSU, Sadistik Exekution, Enslaved, Marduk, Benediction
and so on. In winter we have done a mini tour in Belgium.
9. Is it easy to get gigs in Italy ?
Yes, there's a great scene.
10. Who are some of your fave bands on the scene right now and who are the best newcomers?
I’m not so much into the new scene, I can tell
you what I usually listen to: Dissection, At the Gates, My Dying Bride,
Opthalamia.
11. Tell us about some of the lyrics of your
new release and what some of the topics you deal with are.
I will tell you the meaning of Sacro Culto lyrics:
the first track,"The Oak", talks about na ancient sacrifical ceremony celebrated
in a temple of wood and stones, standing to the sky; in "Fronds of the
Ancient Walnut" nature calls and invites us to partecipate to a sabbath;
"The Naked and the Dance" is pure enjoyment of sensations, na exchange
of energies between the earth and the bodies; "Cimmeries" is the most epic
and aggressive song of the album. It talks about ancient people (the Cimmeri)
who adored the power of iron and the light of their swords. "My Devotion"
is the most private song Opera IX ever written. It is our "Credo", for
this reason I think it is better to listen to it then to explain it with
words. Finally the song "Under the Sign of the Red Dragon" narrates the
war scenes of the men who is well known as the Impaler.
12.What's your source of inspiration when you
create your music, and lyrics ?
Ourselves, the magic there's inside us. We really
paly what we like to play and we don't care to belong to any particular
kind of existent music.
13. How do you see this news bands which mix metal
with folk music, nationalist thought, aliens... ? How do you see the future
of metal ?
I respect all bands that believe in what they
play. I don't know what will happen in the future of metal but I hope only
the best will survive.
14. Talking about sales, how was "The Call of the Wood" done for you?
Officially about 5.000. But I think some artful
men have reprinted it without permission: it it impossible so many people know the Call of the Wood and only 5.000 copies have been sold!
15. I'll tell you different words/names and you
give me you thoughts about it.
- Hino de Mameli
- Apokalipse
- Giuseppe Garibaldi
- European Unification
- Benito Mussolini
- Roman Empire
- world actual politic, economic and social situation
I’m sorry but all these are too much far from
my mind to express an opinion.
16. How do you spend your spare time? Hobbies, interests?
I read alot, I love to play with my dog and to
walk with it, I drink beer (not so much in these last time, maybe I'm becoming serious !?!), I sleep. |
 |
17. What three books and or movies would you consider
essential ?
Books: Shaytan's Legion (1st edition),
I Fiori del Male (Boudelaire), La Divina Commedia (Dante Alighieri).
Movies: Metropolis (Fritz Lang), Twean Peaks
(serial by tv by David Lynch), Crash (Kronemberg).
18. What kind of equipment does the band use?
Sorry: it's a secret.
19. Among musicians , it is common to be under the influence of hard drugs, so what is Opera IX stand on this issue?
I’m not against light drugs, but I can't smoke
marijuana while I’m singing (I brave you to remember a song of 15 minutes
if you have smoked!)
20. If you could exist in any era of any part
of the world, which would it be and why?
I like USA and Scotland but I prefer to live
in Italy: it's my home.
21. Plans to the future ?
A new devastating album!
22. Thanks .... Your final message...
Thank you and all fans for the support. GORGOT ASSAI BELEM!
